Stramit integrates Salesforce & BCI to improve productivity and grow pipeline

Stramit Building Products, part of Fletcher Building is a major Australian manufacturer of roll-formed steel building products, including roof and wall cladding, guttering, fascia, purlins, flooring and structural formwork.

These products, along with complementary products and services, are delivered through a nationwide network of manufacturing and distribution centres, strategically located to ensure coverage of major metropolitan and regional markets.

Challenge

Up to date project data is key to driving pipeline and focus.  Prior to implementing this solution, Stramit was dealing with:

  • 4 staff working full-time to parse BCI data manually
  • Routing 1000-3000 projects a week to sales teams
  • Information overload
  • No ability to filter quality project data
  • No ability to link architects and engineers to the multiple projects they are working with

Solution

Stramit, as a long-term user of the Salesforce platform, looked to Salesforce to be the application to host the BCI project data.  A design was needed that enabled the data to be captured but also filtered and assigned to the correct parties within Stramit.

Stramit chose WDCi as the implementation partner to plan, customise and deploy the solution as well as make recommendations for tweaks in future releases.  Together we designed and released a successful automation process that included the following key features:

  • Integration between BCI and Salesforce
    • Using Dell Boomi to automate the import of BCI project data
  • Automations in Salesforce to filter this data and route filtered data to the right people
  • Alerts and notifications based on the automations that filter the data
  • Dashboards and reports to monitor the pipeline data

Benefits

  • Staff freed up to do more productive tasks
  • Timeliness of information
  • Staff are up to date on what they need to work on
  • Scalability

Paul Hahn, National Sales Manager, noted that “This integration between BCI and Salesforce has enabled us to consume large quantities of data efficiently, driving the right activities in our team to grow our pipeline. WDCi has partnered with us to deliver a solution we understand and can tweak ourselves as we make adjustments to our business focus.  It works brilliantly.”

Integration Tip: Synchronize Picklist Value Part 2 – Externalizing Picklist

We’ve explained the different types of picklist available in our previous blog. This time, we are going to talk about what are the ways to maintain picklist where its value is represented by ID via API.

Usually, we can create a cross-reference table within the integration process to store the picklist values and their corresponding IDs. We can then retrieve the IDs and the matching values via the cross-reference table when needed. However, this approach may require a technical person to maintain the picklist values and IDs, as non-technical person may find it difficult to maintain as it require amending the cross-reference table via the integration process.

Alternatively, we can externalize the picklist cross-reference table within an application instead. For example, when integrating between Netsuite and Salesforce, we can create a picklist cross-reference table in Salesforce to store the picklist values and IDs. When a picklist ID is retrieved from Netsuite, the integration process will be able to retrieve the corresponding values from this table and insert into Salesforce.

With this approach, a non-technical user too can access and maintain the picklist values as well as IDs flexibly.

How to integrate with MYOB Accounting

MYOB Accounting Plus and Premier use an underlying data file to hold the records.

In the current versions this is not a relational databae, making traiditional integration difficult.

MYOB have over the years released a series of ODBC drivers. These have allowed programs such as Word and Excel to extract data and in some cases, insert data to MYOB. WDCi have taken this ODBC driver and created connectors for several integration platforms.

These connectors enable the integration of MYOB into nearly any platform or application, whether hosted or on-premise.

With this framework it is now cost effective to have an online eCommerce site integrated directly with MYOB to post order or invoice data and extract product data. Alternatively you can connect your CRM or ERP system into your MYOB accounting system.

The main objects that are typically integrated are:

Company and individual contact information

Product (Item) information

Opportunity and Sales data to an Orders/Invoices within MYOB

Shopping cart invoice and payment replication to MYOB

Anything in MYOB can be exposed and integrated to a vast array of applications, once you know how.  For more information contact us or check out our ReadyMade solutions for pre-built MYOB integration solutions.
